My stop on the SIWF blog hop!!

Hello and welcome to my
stop on the Say it with Flowers blog hop.
Thank you to the creative brains behind this hop MADAME SAMM and to Cheerleader extraordinaire CAROL organizing all of us!!

If you haven't visited before let me tell you a  bit about myself. I started this blog to document my garden and soon found the online quilting community. Now my blog shares two of my passions along with other randomness that sometimes grows in my brain. Like my header says...."Sewing, Sowing and More"

I hope you enjoy your visit today

Living in Saskatchewan the "flower" season doesn't really start until June/July. In May some times we still have snow like this year and other times it just isn't warm enough for all the lovely blooms to appear.

Usually around the middle of May I do have some flowers to adore, TULIPS! They were planted long ago by the houses previous owner, but I love them all the same. They also acted as my inspiration for this hop.

My ode to tulips

I know I know its not done and for this hop I think we were suppose to have completed projects. I got it to this point a few weeks ago and then planting the garden got in the way.

My fellow flowery friends have some lovely creations today too. Please check them out

Planting....finally!!

Oh my! A whole week went by without a post!! Well I have a good reason for not posting. I have been out in the garden planting!

On Sunday Mr. P brought the tractor over and till the gardens for me. So much easier using the tractor/tiller than the ole walk behind tiller we use to use. Once the ground was ready to go I was itching to get started! Now I am sure most people would be able to get everything planted in one day. I am not that person; I would love to be able to do that. However, my health has me only able to plant for 2 hours a day before I have to go in with early signs of heat stroke.  Nonetheless, every little bit counts and I hope to have everything in by the week-end!

Okay I know the pictures below are going to just look like dirt with sticks..but there are things planted..LOL

Monday night Mr.P and I got the potato plot planted with 88 Norland Potatoes

We also got 2 rows of tenderlong carrots, and 2 rows on yellow onion sets planted before the mosquitoes got too bad and we had to go in.

On Tuesday I got 2 rows of red onions sets, 1 row pickling onion seedlings, 3 rows leek seedlings, and 1 row on green onion seedlings planted.

On Wednesday I got 1 row Detroit beets, 1 row Italian beets, 1 row gold beets, 2 rows easter egg radishes, 2 rows spinach, 2 rows lettuce, 3 rows peas, and 2 rows broad beans!

I got in a few more rows today and my flower baskets, but no pictures yet. One of the full hanging baskets fell on my head and I had to call it a day

I still have all of this to plant, plus the back garden!!

It doesn’t seem like a lot ..it is a lot and I haven’t even started to really plant my seedlings yet. They are all still in here!!

lol forgot to flip the pic....seedlings in the green house

flowers and a few veggies

I also started a few more seedlings, red cabbage, Chinese cabbage, basil, chamomile and water melons.

So if you don’t hear from me in a few more days you can see why!!

Soaking up the Sun

First of all I must wish the love of my life Mr.P a big HAPPY BIRTHDAY!!! He is such an amazing friend and an exception husband who I am lucky to have in my life. So very happy that I get to spend today celebrating him!

Okay now on to other news......

Yesterday was the first day that all my seedlings made the trek from the basement to the great outdoors. It was a nice warm day with a good breeze, but overcast.  They all thoroughly enjoyed themselves and no one fell over or broke this time around!

Flowers and tomatoes

Tomatoes, cabbage, pappers. After this photo I added a little more soil to keep those tomatoes from flopping around

Peppers and artichokes

Artichokes are dying :(

Everything else....lol

Last night a few of the trays that had been outside before got to spend the night in the greenhouse. They survived the night so they will continue to stay outdoors unless there is a risk of frost. I am still a little worried about leaving the tomatoes in the greenhouse over night, but I am thinking that after today everything will be staying out permanently now.

Mr.P will be tilling the garden for me on Sunday or Monday so in a few short days I am going to start planting the garden!! So very exciting as it seemed like I wouldn’t be planting at all this year due to all the snow we had!

Now my biggest worries will be that Mother Nature is nice to my plants, no wind storms, no hail, and just enough rain. Well that and I will have to be gone for 15 days in June. Mr.P will be here to tend to the garden, but I think I am going to miss a few yummy harvests!! We’ll see maybe I will plant a few things a bit later so I can still be around to enjoy them!

Okay off to check on the plants!! Have a great day

Stupid Wind!

Oh my it’s just about the middle of May!! The weather has been up and down here lately. Hitting high 20C’S and then below zero at night. It has also been quite windy which has made me shy about putting my plants outside.

On Friday Night I forgot my flowers and onions outside in the greenhouse. They were a little limp come the afternoon, but they have seemed to perk back up. Saturday was also the first day my cabbages, melons, pumpkins and winter squash got to spend some time outside. They were just out for a few hours in the green house and did great.

On Sunday we took them out again only to have a big ole gust of wind knock over the green house. I was getting things ready for our Mother’s day supper so I just had to pretend it didn’t happen and finish getting things ready. Mr.P was kind enough to try and fix the problem. He had to take each little plant and try to replant it back into its cell the best he could. He then brought everything back in and I tried to hold back my tears as everything looked HORRIBLE.

Fast forward 24hrs and they seem to be okay. The still don’t look quite as perky as before the fall, but nothing died over night.
Onions/leeks look a little sad, but they should be okay

Squash, melons and cabbage. They are doing much better today!!

These cabbage are not looking as great..neither is the fabric on the floor or my foot...lol

I did noticed 2 of the leaves look like this. I hope that doesn’t mean bad things. I have 3 out of 4 artichokes which look like that and are dying!!!

Have a great day. I have a 4pm dr's appointment. She only works till 5 so lets hope she is on time!!
