Craft room change up

As you may recall I have been battling the mess demons in my craft room. I just started to get things organized and began thinking how else I could trick out my craft room when the thought hit me.

We plan on having another baby + that future baby will have to have a room = craft room will have to become babies room.

Therefore there wasn’t much sense in adding do dads and what have yas all over the room just to take them all down in say a year.

So what was a gal to do? Well I decided to sell our old living room furniture downstairs and turn the basement living room into my craft room…lol. Our basement is finished, but not really our main living room area as the previous owners turned one large room into 2 bedrooms.
The furniture was stolen from my parents when they reno’d their previous house and I moved out in 2003. The furniture is about as old as me so over 30 years old and other than being an extra living room in the 6 years we lived here it was only used when my parents were staying with us back in 2012. So basically it was just taking up space. I put it on our local buy/sell website for free and within 24hours couch, chair, lamps, coffee and end tables were gone and I was left with this area…..eeeeek.

Now we do plan on renovating the basement in the next 5 years so it will be usable once the kid(s) is older, but for now this room is all mine.

My mom has all of February off so she is going to come out and help me move everything from upstairs to downstairs. I am looking forward to the change up! I have been saving Christmas/birthday money from the in-laws in my drawer for the past couple of years. I didn't really need anything so I figured why spend it. Now I am going to take that money and buy a crafting desk. Nothing fancy since I'm still cheap and only have a couple hundred to play around with. But anything is better than my 1990's desk that fell part about 10 years ago and I am still using it...LOL

Have a great day

WIP 28/01/15

Oh my its the last Work In Progress Report for January. I am both happy and sad to say I am still working on my baby quilt for Lil Pickle.  I know you must be thinking...gesh this quilt AGAIN....I'm slow but I am still working at it so YEA me :)

I am officially all done the squares in the squares. It was a lot more work than I thought it would be, but I am happy with the look.

Part of the front (other half is still in the machine)

What the back looks like

I am now moving onto stitching in the ditch. So far I have gone in between the quilt and the border.
You can almost make out the line below the boxes..lol

I was going to opt out of going around each square set, but it looks a little strange with just the 4 squares...see above

I want to have this done for her birthday in the middle of March. I think I can do it, fingers crossed I can!
However, at this rate I am not sure what I should do with the border. Should I quilt it or just leave it....hmmmm

For those of you who read yesterday's post.....yes this quilt is also covered in unicorn fart dust....aka glitter from the tutu..lol

Tutu Time

I decided for Lil Pickles 1st birthday that in addition to finishing her quilt I wanted to make her a tutu. I found a few simple tutorials online and adapted them to suite what I wanted to make.

I elected to go for aqua and silver since I love those 2 colours together. I originally put two shades of pink into the shopping basket, but decided against it. Personally l love pink, but I always get “oh you dress her in pink” look when she wears pink so aqua won out.

It’s also my favourite colour…so win win for me.

So I turned this

Into this

 My lovely Model
(aka Teddy that I got way back in 1989)

It was really easy to put together. Next time I wouldn't use the glitter tulle as it is a lot stiffer and therefor the knots don;t look as neat. Also the glitter just falls off so it looks like a unicorn farted sparkles all over the house!

Sparkles on my cutting matt

Sparkles on the floor. Hard to see put there are A LOT

Sparkles on the chair

Right now as I type this out I am still covered in sparkles and I finished the tutu last week..lol

Have a sparkly day

Garden thoughts

Right now we are having a bit of unusually warm weather here in Saskatchewan, the day time high is normally around the -20C and this week we are going to be hitting above zero. It makes for a nice break and causes me to start thinking about the garden.

This is the garden right now….lovely, eh

Are you thinking...umm all i see is white where is the garden? Well it's under a good couple of feet of snow in between the trees. Really I swear i'ts there...lol

My plan was to start seeds indoor this year again, however we are going on a little vacation this spring which makes it a little hard to have seedlings sitting around. My mother in law took care of my seedlings at her home a few years ago, so I might just have her do that again.

I am not sure what exactly I want to start indoors this year. Tomatoes for sure and cabbages and maybe basil since it seems to be hard to find at the greenhouses when I need it. I might start some flowers this year to. I usually grow petunias that I buy for cheap at Costco, but we’ll see.

So basically what I am telling myself with this post is that I need to plan out the 2015 garden and then go from there….so off to do that!

Have a great Day

WIP 21/01/15

It’s that time of the week again Work In Progress Wednesday and I am still progressing along. My boxes have become a little straighter with practice, however I think the biggest obstacle has been the lack of space I have to turn the quilt around to make the squares. If I wasn’t pushing and pulling so much I wouldn’t have the needle jump at the corners. At least that is what I am going with. That and I figured out the needle has to be down a lot further than I was putting it to keep it from jumping. Practice makes perfect, right?

One of the straighter blocks

One of the block set all quilted

I have 11 more block sets to do. So forty four more blocks and then I am going to stitch in the ditch around each block set and minky blocks as well. I decided to skip quilting the minky, since I didn’t like the way the fabric got squished and created big lines that looked like cuts vs quilting. To finish things up i am going to either stitch in the ditch around the boarder or do some squiggles...not sure yet

As I see that in type it looks pretty daunting! I applauded all of you that can sit down and quilt a whole quilt in a day!! I still have a hard enough time remembering to breath when I quilt that I’m sure if I spent more than an hour at it I would be passed out on the floor with the quilt sewed onto my hand… LOL

So that's it for this week. Hopefully I will have more progress to show next week! My goal is to get at least one set done a day. Lil pickle has me on the run all day but I can get one set done while she jumps in the jolly jumper...so we shall see how that works out!!

Use it or Lose is 16/1/15

Yep I'm still keeping at this and for the most part succeeding

Lets see what did I bring up from the freezer

3 bags of spinach
4 bags of green beans
3 bags of broccoli
1 bag of puréed kohlrabi
1 3lbs beef roast
1 1lbs bag of ground beef

From the cold room
5 onions
15 potatoes
2 jars of tomatoes

The spinach was puréed to add to Lil pickles meals. She has decided she is a big girl and doesn't want to eat puréed food any more so puréeing foods is going to be thing of the past...so sad
Green beans were cooked and then cut up into bite size pieces and portioned up for the week.
kohlrabi is just being used up at the rate of 2 cubes a day.

Lost it
Broccoli- I steamed it for 5 mins and when I opened up the pot I was surprised to find dark brown broccoli. I tasted it and it tasted a little strange. I didn't want to risk giving it to Lil Pickle so it was tossed.
Cabbage- this was still hanging out in the fridge from the summer.....It looked fine but was limp and tasted like fridge so it was thrown out.

With all the happened over the holiday's I wasn't sticking to my gluten free diet and have been paying the price. Stuffy nose, migraines, sore joints. Today I got back on the wagon and then forgot and made pasta for supper...lol Oh well there is always tomorrow!

Take care

First WIP of 2015

Here is it my first WIP report of 2015. My big goal this year is to try and get some quilts from the closet to the bed. My mission statement is going to be the same this year as it was last year. It seemed to work until the baby showed up so hopefully I can stay on track now.

2015  Sewing Mission Statement
In order to try and get some UFO's done this year I am going to try and keep my current to do list small and just work on one thing at a time. I am going to try and not start anything "new" but instead take one thing off of my no progress list each month.

Current WIP

Baby quilt.

As you may recall this started off as a gift for my cousin, who i thought might not appreciate it as much as I would have hope so I kept it for a rainy day. Low and behold that rainy day turned into a baby of my own. Before my daughter was born I had completed the flimsy and stopped.
This picture is from January 2014

Here is lil pickle playing with it

I have bought this lovely "girly" monkey fabric to replace the "boy themed" bear fabric I had originally bought.

It wasn't quite long enough so I added a aqua stip.

Here it is all sandwhiched and ready to quilt

and here is my start on quilting.

I decided to do squares in the squares and do as little as possible to the minky since i HATE working with it! I think I will just end up doing an X through the minky or more than likely just another square to keep things the same.
I haven't done any quilting like this before. I have only done stitch in the ditch and free-motion. I must say its harder than I thought so my first couple of blocks are wonky as I am learning. My needle keep moving when I move the quilt to do the next side of the square. I leave the needle down but when i start again it jumps. Not sure what I am doing wrong, but practice makes perfect...lol

Hopefully I will have a little more progress next week.

Around the world Blog hop- my turn

Welcome to my stop on the around the world blog hop. I am sure at least a few of my readers have seen this blog hop circulating around the quilting blogworld and today is my day to take part. I was invited by the lovely Jen from Quilter in the Closet. Please click HERE to read her post from last week. Her work is amazing so I am sure you will love her blog :)

So what is the hop all about you ask? Well it’s really a way for quilters around the world to get to know each other a little better without the pressures of actually having to make something to show off and with out their being a host who has to organize anything…. So basically my kind of blog hop…lol It's kind of a bloggy chain letter where you can keep linking back and learning about lot of different quilters

We are given 4 simple (maybe) questions we can intrepid and answer however we like. Since we’ve have a rough time in our house the past couple of weeks I am going to follow the questions as is.

What are you working on?
Right now I will be honest I am both working on nothing and lots at the same time. I had the mission to clean my craft room before the end of 2014 to start sewing again, but life got in the way.. That’s as good an excuse as any, right? But these are the 4 quilt tops I have ready to go. My goal is to work on one a month.

How does your work differ from other of its genre?

I would say it likely has more mistake than the average quilter out in the blogging world. I’m okay with that though. My sewing motto is imperfectly perfect. Last year at a quilt show I saw a few quilts that had won awards and they weren’t perfect…So I figure the quilts I make are all winners in my eyes and that’s good enough for me.

Why do you write/create what you do?
Honestly I write to get the voices out of my head. Okay the only voice in there is my own, but sometimes it’s rather nasty and likes to fester on things it doesn’t need to. So writing allows me to get it out and move on. I started my blog in 2011 to do just that and it has helped more than anyone will ever know. In the anonymity of the online world that has led to a lot of hate and cruelty it has allowed me peace, love and freedom to be me that I can’t get in the real world.

How does your writing/creating process work?

My writing process is easy and complicated. I just open up a word document and let my fingers do the typing. I love to write I always have and always will. I think that is in part due to me being an only child. I have a great imagination and can get lost in my own thoughts a lot. A lot of what comes to me comes in my dreams. I am plagued by constant nightmares, but amidst them I do have some great page turners. I have 3 books on the go and my goal is to finish at least one in my lifetime. My creating process for quilts is much the same I can close my eye and see what I want to create. I don’t usually have the talent to transform my dreams from my mind onto fabric, but I do enjoy trying.
Here are a few of my creations that I tried to get from my head onto fabric

Okay so that end’s my part of the around the world blog hop! I hope you had fun stopping by and learning a little bit more about me and my process or lack thereof. If anything I hope you can adopted my motto of perfectly imperfect for just a day and revile in the fact that perfection isn’t perfection

The 2nd requirement for this hop is to round up 3 more bloggers to tell us a little more about themselves. However, since our world got turned upside down after I agreed to be part of the hop I was unable to find anyone to take part for next week and carry on the hop. If you would like to please let me know in the comments section or e-mail me and I will send you the info!

Take care

The Christmas that never happened

At 230am on Christmas eve My husband had what appeared to be a seizure to me at least. He had two previous episodes on the day after our daughter was born and another in October. The previous 2times he was told it was a vasovagal "attack" and everything was fine. He went through a lot of tests and everything came back fine. So he wouldn't let me call 911 when it happened on the 24th at 2:30am

At 4am it happened again but in bed and not as bad as the first one. Again wouldn't let me call 911.

At 8am it happened again while he was walking back to our bedroom. He passed out and fell onto the bed on top of me in what seemed like a seizure. I was able to get free and bring him back around. But this time he was too weak to get up so he allowed me to call 911.

The medic agreed it sounded like a seizure and off to the nearest hospital he went with me close behind in the car. Luckily my mother made it to our place just as the ambulance arrived so she stayed with the baby.  By 12pm he still wasn't feeling himself and the er doc suggested we go to the hospital in the city so they could do an eeg and Mri. He assured us we would get in quickly since he knew the neurologist on call and gave us a letter to help fast track the process.

We got emerg in the city by 2pm and he was still feeling sick and dizzy, we both had the flu so that didn't help matters. He got in for a cat scan by 4pm and by 6 we finally saw a Dr or a 3rd year resident at least and he said we couldn't go home since marc was still out of it. Likely from the meds given to him but they felt he was too weak to go home and were afraid he might have another seizure. Also they needed to do an eeg, mri  scan before the could let him go....but the mri was closed becuase it was Christmas?!? So our Christmas eve celebrations were cancelled. They loaded Marc full of meds and said he'd get a room soon. His vitals were going crazy and by 9pm he still didn't have a room. I didn't want to leave him but lil pickle was at my mom's and didn't have any food for the next day in addition to refusing to sleep anywhre but in her own crib. So i had to leave him scared and druged out in the ER it was one of the hardest things I have ever had to do.

How do you celebrate your daughter's 1st Christmas when daddy is sick in the hospital....you don't. So other than me crying and saying I was so sorry lil pickle didn't have the magical Christmas morning we had been preparing for the past month. I was delirious myself from the flu, guilt and lack of sleep but come 8am marc started texting me begging me to come to the hospital.

It took me till 12pm to get to the hospital since i was so sick. But when i got there the poor guy is still in emergency and under quarenteen since he has the flu. After putting on a gown, mask and gloving up i'm allowed in to see him and he looks worse then the day before. Two more residents come in and say he just had fainting spells as the meds will wear off soon and we can go home. At 2pm we are still in ER and the actual neurologist comes in saying he feels they were defintanly seizures and maybe having a adverse reaction to the meds so before he gives him more he wants to run some blood work. Two hours later we find out he's still so sick because they gave him a near fatal dose of meds. Now that's not me saying that, that is the 1st year resident making a mistake and telling us because he was soo excited that "wow yeah your blood work showed a near fatal dose of the meds"... So still in hospital, because some idiot almost killed Marc. After complaining to the resident that we have spent 24hours in the ER we find out they forgot to admit him the night before so no one knew he needed a bed. Finally at 630pm on the 25th he gets a bed in the hospital.

On the 26th still overdosed on meds so they won't let him leave until the Dr says it's okay. But the Dr never shows up. At 7pm they says okay u can have a day pass come back for midnight. But we leave 45mins away so there was no point in leaving. Marc was so crushed that we spent a good hour just crying.

On the 27th at 4am my mother who has been sleeping on our couch call out to me that she needs help. I go running to find her pale and holding her chest. She says she feels sick and has shooting pain running down her left arm. So I call 911 for the 2nd time in a few days and they send out another ambulance. The figure it was just a panic attack from being exhausted and she doesn't have to go to the hospital. I sent her home for the day and told my mother in law she would have to go and sit with Marc in the hospital until at least 4 and then i would go. Marc was disappointed but okay with in and then around noon the resident on call came into see him and said he could have a day pass. My brother in law went to pick him up and daddy came come. At 6pm the hospital called us and said there was such a back log on the MRI that they might as well just send Marc home. So we had to drice back into the city to discharge Marc, find a drugstore that was open to get his meds and drive back home...........so at 11pm on the 27th Marc still weak, dizzy and having the flu go to come home.

So it was a hard few days. Our poor daughter missed out on her 1st Christmas, never got to see any of the family that were so excited to see her including my 86 year old grandmother that lives 3.5hrs away. I know she doesn't know she missed out, but we do and it hurts a lot.

We had Christmas eve on Dec 31st at my mom's and then had Christmas morning here at our house on the 1st. It was still exciting like real Christmas, but Marc and I still cried a lot both days. I know in the grand scheme of things having him be save and at home far outweighs missing celebrating Christmas, but it still hurts. You just want everything to be perfect for your kids and we already messed that up.

Marc is doing better, no seizures since the 24th. On the morning of the 31st we thought it was happening again, but it passed as it did last night as well. So still no real answers and he loses his lience fro 3 months. Its going to be hard having to dive him the city and home everyday, but we'll manage.

Thanks for listening to my rant I had to get it out as it was festering and driving me crazy
