Border Feedback needed

Yesterday I sewed all the blocks together...and i LOVE IT.

However, now I am thinking that it might be too small to leave the borders off  like I had planed. It's destined to be a lap quilt, but it goes from my hips to my ankles or from my shoulders to my shins...so as I said a little small

Before I decided that I wasn't going to but on borders I went out in the snow storm on Saturday and bought fabric. The blue is option one and the grey/white was option two. Once I layed them all out together I thought...NO BORDERS needed.....but now...hmmmm

I guess the other option would be to make another three blocks....once again...hmmmm

Like I said I love it as is. I plan on using a nice blue for the binding and then it will be perfect..........but short..lol

Help me make my mind up!!

WIP 29/04/15

Last week I mentioned that I was going to start working on a new project from the No Progress List.

Back in 2012 I hosted and took part in the We Bee Learning bee (for more info on the bee check out the quilting bees tab. Sign ups for the summer round will start soon)
We had 12 members full of lovely ladies from around the world including my mother and friend.

Last year one of the members ( i wont mention her by name, but she has a lovely blog and is a equally lovely person) said she didn't think she would ever get around to making the quilt and wanted to know if I knew of someone that would give them a good home. Since 3 of the blocks had a connection to me I thought yes I could give them a good home.

This is what I have. I think I will make 3 more and put the one with the coloured corners on the back

All cut and ready to be sewn

All sewn up

excuse my photo taking capabilities. I know I would getter better quality pic from my camera vs my phone...but i'm lazy..lol.

All the blocks together.

I was thinking of using sashing and a border..but I decided against both since i quite like the way it looks as is
The tiny white writing is just my blog name. I recently saw one of my pictures in a search for something and thought...hmm i should put my name on my pics but i hated how it looked..so i made is small..lol

Okay now the next item I am starting to work on is not on my no progress list. However, I have to work on it soon or lil Pickle will be to old to play with them. While in Palm Springs we made a stop at Jo-ann's fabric store. We don't have that store up here and it was always a dream of mine to go to one...lol I bought a few(aka a lot) of circut dies, but not a lot of fabric. Although the fabric was cute it was still more expensive then what I can buy at home before the exchange rate (which sucked boo dollar) So i just bought 5 FQ and which included the one below that I will use to make the free pattern I picked up too.

Next weeks goal
Sew Greek Cross Blocks together and get nursery blocks made

So yeah this happened

Starting last Wednesday Environment Canada was predicting snowfall for our area of Saskatchewan. It's April so it was not totally out of left field to hear about snow in the forecast. "They" were calling for 15-24cm of the gnarly white stuff, but no one really believed it would happen. Saturday started off a cool one. When i dropped Mr.P off to work arround 9am it was drizzling and half way back home the rain turned into ice pellets. Somewhere around 11am the snow started and it was still going strong at 12am sunday morning

This is the view from Lil Pickles room at 5pm

This is 7pm

11:30pm

by this time Zada could hardly get down the steps and  had to drag her belly as she jumped in the snow.

And this morning. The only damage was our gazebo went from an outie to and innie. In other words it's broken. The top of one of the evergreens might have snapped too, but neither of us can remember if it was like that before or not. Mr.P had put the snow blowers away a few weeks ago so he had to go through some pretty deep snow at spots to get to the back garage to get them. It melted a bit during the day but  not much.

So the garden is under a good 2 feet of snow again. It is suppose to be 10C Monday, and 20C on Tuesday so it should all melt. "They" are calling for 32cm of rain on Thursday..WOW so now we are on flood watch in our basement. Going to have the sump pump ready to go
 just incase.

Have a great day

Garden at a glance

Okay first off I am going to warn you there isn't much to look at. If you like to look at open spaces of dirt then this will be your thing. If not then well it still might be fun to look at..lol

The snow is all gone and both gardens are well on their way to being dry

i thought I was closer when I took this picture...but the large dirt stain..that's the garden

This was the view of the back garden from my bedroom a few weeks ago. Google backed it up and made it look at pretty so i thought i would share it. The grass had greened up a bit since then and the trees are budding as you can see in the 1st pic

This beauty below is going to be my new patio garden...eek! I saw a few a Mr.P work and asked about them. He never knew what I was talking about until I saw a big ole pile of rotten ones and asked if he could save me a new one. It took 6 months for him to remember, but this little beauty made its way to be last week. I plan on cleaning it up and staining it. It destined to be either my greens garden (spinach/lettuce) or herbs, or strawberries, or maybe just flowers..lol I have a few weeks to decided

Have a great day

Blog purge

Last night I sat down at the computer and opened up my bloglovin account. The number 324 stared back at me....oh my I thought that is a heck of a lot of blog posts to read. I'll be honest I don't read them all, just skim the pics and titles and click on those that peak my interest. I do have a few that I click on no matter what since they are my bloggy friends of sorts but i still might not comment.....either way 324 is a lot of posts and that was just after 3 days!

So I started thinking do I really need to follow all the blogs I am following. I hate to unfollow it makes me feel bad. I know how it feels to get the e-mail saying someone has unfollowed you, but I get it we can't be everyone's cup of tea all the time. Some of the blogs I follow annoy me a few even anger me. So I started to make to purge. First i started at the top and if someone hadn't posted in 2015 I unfollowed them. I had about 20 that hadn't posted since 2012!! Gesh I needed to purge a little earlier..lol
Its a lot of work go through each name. If something shows up in bloglovin then fine, but there was a lot of investigating....which after a hour gave me a headache..lol

after 1 hour I was down 50 blogs and then i cut got lazy. If bloglovin told me no recent activity and i didn't recall the blog...it cut it...it was a bloggy blood bath..yikes and then I must have angered something because it stopped allowing me to unfollow..lol

Do I feel bad, Yes! I don't know why the majority of people I removed hadn't posted in 2 years, but I still feel bad. So after all that did it makes a difference. No I haven't actually cut any of the blogs that do actually post that I don't really read...lol Now onto do that...lol

How about you. Do you ever do a blog purge?

WIP 22/04/15

I did it I reached my goal of the week and got all the squares sewn together. I will be honest it didn't go as planned and I blame my choice to not scrap the smaller blocks to make 2 more as the cause of my frustration.
The sides of the "snails" don't quite go together, however even on the blocks that were the same size they don't match so maybe they are not suppose to. Nonetheless it left me quite kerfuddled (*** confused, angry, sad***) I also have one block that is puffy. No matter how many times I rip it out and resew it back in its still puffy. I am going to leave it, but I am sure I will be cursing my choice when it comes time to quilt it.
However, for the most part the middles of each match up perfectly so I am going with focusing on that.. :)

I am thinking of going with a grey border. What do you think?? I know its hard to visualize it with that one strip of grey, but think I like it. I might do a thin grey border and then a larger aqua one. Do you thin I should go solid or pattern?

Either way I am going to have to order fabric for the borders so this is going to be put on hold for a bit. However, that means time to work on something new off of the no progress list.

For the next project I simply went into my wip drawer and pulled out the first thing on top.

Seedling report

As you may recall I started my seedlings on the 8th of April and here they are 12 days later.

Looking pretty good. It took Mr.P a little longer than I would have liked to get my light set up, but our pressure tank sprang a leak so he spent as good part of last week trying to fix it. I'm very proud that he did all the plumbing and electrical himself. :) However, it meant my seedlings got a bit leggy..lol
Butter nut are up, pumpkin are just starting and yellow wax peppers are still a no show

tomatoes, cabbage, watermelon, spaghetti squash and basil

The red cabbage are really slow. however like the yellow peppers on my 2013 chart shows they took 13 days to sprout so I am not too worried yet.

Now the wait to transplant....arg I hate waiting. As soon as they spout I want to transplant them to their big girl pots, but its still too early. Or is it. I always thought you had to wait until their true leaves appeared before you should pot them up, but I have another book that says as soon as they are over an inch tall you can transplant them. I think I will be transplanting them this week either way..lol

In other garden news the weather is really starting to warm up. No where near planting quite yet as our last frost date is usually the middle of May. But its getting close. It's hard seeing some of the gardeners online planting already! We are still hitting below zero at night. My grandmother always had her garden planted the 1st week-end in May. If things keep up here I might try and do that too...maybe...lol

Happy Sprouting!

Growing

I decided that I would start a few seeds indoors after all. I was going to be a little lazy this year and skip doing it again, however last year the tomatoes were hit with blight, yet again. This seems to happen when I use store bought plants vs my own. So I am growing my own.

I am cutting down on the number of plants I am growing this year to just 6 of each. I think it will give me enough for a couple batches of salsa and a few batches of sauce.

I will be seeding 6 roma, 6 early girl and 6 cherry tomato. I planted 2 seeds each so we'll see how well they do and if 6 of each becomes 12..lol

I also planted 3 types of cabbage, basil, melon, watermelon, pumpkin, butter nut squash, spaghetti squash and I think that its.

First bunch all planted

Lil pickles watching me..well eating while i work..lol

a few days later....we have signs of life!!

So far just about everything is up now. I forgot how exciting this all is..lol

have a great day!

WIP 15/04/15

Well the last month was a bust for sewing. I only entered my sewing room once to make this and that was it.
Everything was just iron on appliqué, which the little bugger destroyed with in a few hours of wearing it....but it was cute while it lasted...LOL

As I mentioned in my previous post I stressed myself out over being scammed and it really made me lose a whole month.

However, I am ready to get back on the fast track and pick up a snails trail...lol As you may recall I am at this point.

While in Palm Springs I picked up a few FQ's to make the final square for this quilt. I thought I would be a nice way to remember the trip.

This the square all done

All my squares done and i'm ready to start sewing the top together!! I am a little worried about how everything will go together since a few of the blocks are quite a bit smaller than the rest. So wish me luck with that!!

My Goal for next week is to have everything sewn together. What do you think I should use for borders..red..blue..grey or something else?

Moving on

Sorry for the lack of posts I hit a rough patch in my life that threw me for a loop more than I care to admit. However, I think I am better now and finally trying to move on.

The rental owner of the condo we stayed at in Palm Springs is scamming us out of money. Although we have proof that we didn’t cause the damage to her garage door she is keeping our damage deposit and trying to get even more money out of us to replace the whole door. VRBO the rental site I used isn’t being much help. I did buy the extra insurance, but it seems that all they do it take the complaint forward it onto the rental owner and that’s it. The damage was there a whole day before we even rented the place and have witnesses so this whole situation shouldn’t even be happening, but it is and it sucks. I have spent a good part of the past few weeks e-mailing the rental owner, but she just spins things and piles lies on top of lies. At this point I am resigned to the fact we are losing our 500 deposit and praying every night that we don’t get sued. On a whole the situation has made me physically sick and taken over my life.

I haven’t heard from her in a week and right now I am just waiting on VRBO to do something if anything so it’s just a waiting game. I am trying to get on with my life, but to be honest I still am afraid every time my phone pings telling me I have an e-mail.

So needless to say I haven’t been up to much at all. No sewing, seeding, reading blogs and so on. But I am going to start moving on now and just put that awful lady and what she is doing to us behind me and hope that she leaves us alone.
