Wip 8/12/15

Am I the only one that can't believe it's December. It sneeks up on me every year and all the pintrest things I saved to decorate the house and make and so on never ever happen.
The house is decorated, but the tree isn't bought yet.
I don't know about you but I live in denial that it's winter in October and November thinking that if I start thinking about Christmas I'll some how bring on the snow and cold temps. So when December hits bang I'm unprepared and then stress out that I didn't do more ahead of time. That's usually followed by December flashing by and then sadness that Christmas is over....lol maybe that's just me though..ha

I didn't have a huge Christmas project list this year. I wanted to make lil pickle an apron. Check.
And I wanted to make a mat for Santas cookies and milk. Well check to that too. I finished it last week. It's no where near what I envisioned, but it will do for a 2 year old and a 8 month old.

I also started a quilt for my son. It's a creation out of my head. So we will see how that goes..lol

We have been spoiled this year with a lack of snow and warmer than seasonal temps. However, the cold snap is here and it hit -30c last night. Yikes!

Stay warm

WIP 30/11/16

Another week and another WIP report look at me go..lol
I think my motto for 2017 is going to be do small finish quick...ha

I finished my coffee machine mat. My husband thinks it's too nice to put under the machine where he feels it will just get wrecked. So I'm not sure where it will go. Under the machine for now at least.

I also started working on this mat for Santa's cookie, milk and Rudolph's carrot. Neither applique or embroidery are my strong suit but I think it will turn out nicely. I might put the kids names in the bottom left.

And that's it fir this week. Wishing you all a lovely week

WIP report 22/11/16

This is my first WIP report in a very very long time!
I am kind of in a bad place of late and spending time creating in my sewing room is helping a bit and not helping a bit too if I'm being honest...lol but I am going to focus on the helping bit. I just started coming down here to do anything quite while the kids napped. I had been napping when they napped but I thought if I tried to stay up it might help my insomnia and being productive might help keep the blues away.

Okay enough of the over sharing...lol

I wanted to make lil pickle an apron to wear for when my mother and I do our Christmas Appies baking day. It turned out pretty good considering I had never done anything like that before. It took me a good hour to figure out how to use the button hole function on my machine but it ended up working out.

I also finally quilted the coffee machine mat that I cut out last year. Gesh that's depressing...lol but it is all quilted and now I just have to try and remember how to do binding. Hopefully I have a finished project to show for next week.

hmmm I could have sworn it was square, but it looks a little wonky in this picture..lol

As always my list of things to do follows..lol

Nov 1st...how did that happen

I must say I am not sure how people do it. Have kids, a garden, craft and still find time to have impressive blogs....lol I would like to,say I haven't been blogging because I was excelling at the other stuff,  but that would be a lie..lol

The garden went well this year. I have 10 harvest Monday posts that I never got around to posting so I guess that doesn't make it official. However it was a good year
Things grew extra large here. This carrot was 16 inches long. Some potatoes were 14in and a few tomatoes were over 400g

I have been doing a little bit of sewing. Just trying to make bowties for the little guy and playing around with some different looks

Other than that I've just been focusing on the kiddo and trying not to think about all the things a should be doing....lol

Take care

Baby love :)

As you may recall from my last post on February 3rd we had a bit of a scare and were told to expect the baby ( due march 17th) any day. Fast-forward to February 29th my dr still assured me everything was still a go for a VBAC and baby's head was down an ready to go. He wanted me to go for an ultrasound just to check the weight since if the baby was over 8lbs then we might  have to go for another c section. I was lucky enough to get in for an u/s the very next day. However the tech informed me at my appointment that the baby was transverse. Head under my left ribs and feet over at my right side. So the OB had no idea what he was talking about when he said the baby was head down. I called my dr's office right away and informed them of the u/s/ The next day i was back at my drs who double checked the techs results and yep the baby was transverse and I would have to have another c section. I was beyond crushed and terrified. The c section was booked for March 10th. by that day the baby was a double footling breech and I was rushed to the OR to get the little bugger out. We went in at 3:30pm

and

at 4:15pm this little boy was born

We are over the moon in love with him (even lil pickle loves him)

I ended up having a surprise 5.5cm hernia discovered during the c section that was repaired at the same time. in addition to recovering from two surgeries i also ended up getting an infection in my incision. So the road to recovery has been a little slow, but on a whole I think better than the first time around. Although I was crushed that I had to have another c section sometimes God does have a plan.

Use it or lose it 12/02/16

I've been hard at work not successfully using it, however I haven't been losing it either. Unless you count my mind cause I really feel like I have been losing that recently..lol  We are still on baby watch, however I think things have settled down and the little guy or gal is going to stay in for a bit longer. Watch me go past my due date.....lol and argh

I have been trying to get things done around the house just in case the baby comes early. We still don't have the nursery ready, however the baby will in our room for the first few months so i focused on getting our room ready. Its now ready.

I think we have everything we need ready to go and if we don't they do have stores we can buy things at. Who knew, right...lol

I started making my freezer meals this week two. I made two Baked Penne and one Pork tenderloin in cream gravy with noodles. My mother has next week off and my hope is to get at least 15 meals made.

Used it
In making the baked Penne I used
2lbs of our farm ground beef
1 jar stewed tomatoes
1 jar tomato sauce

I also used one jar of salsa this week. (secretly addicted to baked potato with cheese and salsa on top)

Lose it

So far this week has been pretty good. I might have to throw out a few oranges come garbage day on Saturday. But for the most part we have been really good at using up our leftovers. AKA making lil pickle eat them...lol

Baby watch

Things might get a little slower on here. Not that they could get that much slower, right...lol

However, as of Wednesday we are officially on baby watch. I am only due March 17th, but things are already well on there way so the dr figures its only a matter of time. I am hoping it stays in for at least a couple more weeks. That will mean its lungs will be better developed by then and less time in the NICU if any.

It's exciting, stressful and scary all at the same time. We have nothing ready and I am trying not to do anything more than necessary so I don't accelerate things. However, its pretty hard to sit and do nothing with a  22 month old..lol

Hopefully the little guy or gal stays in past this week-end so we have a chance to get a few more things done.

I'll keep you all posted!

Pinterest tryouts week #1

I like many of you out there use Pinterest. I love pinning, but I'm bad at not actually using anything I have pinned. So another 2016 goal is to use one pinned item a week from one of the categories I have created. While doing this I will also organize my categories as well. If you would like to follow me on pinterest click the button on the right side bar.

This week I'm taking a look at projects I would like to make. This folder was the first one a created and was kind of all over the place. It had everything i it from apples to quilting. I moved 40 pins into different folders.

The project I am going to make/ use as inspiration is
Easy placemats from sameliasmum. I pinned this project 4 years ago.

http://www.sameliasmum.com/2010/10/quick-and-easy-placemats.html

If you have been following my Work in Progress Reports I haven't gotten too far. Just have the fabric cut and the batting cut. I am hoping to get it done this week if I can remember to get Mr.P to help me get my chair free!! I'm not doing anything too fancy just one piece for the front and a second for the back. This "placemat" will be sitting under our espresso machine so no one will really be seeing it, but it's better than the plastic I have under it now!

Next week I will be trying out something from my next board "Holiday Crafts" Should be interesting I have no idea what is all in there.

Till then

Garden thoughts

With the weather warming up ( it's -11C with the windchill today...lol)  I've been thinking about the garden. I know I will plant again this year even though some people in my life keep saying silly things like don't plant it or just plant a small garden.  That irks me to no end.  I just want to yell the thousands of not nice things in my head. I know real mature, right...lol. It's my life, my garden and eventual my weeds and no one else's so there ya go.

Right now the garden looks like this. Almost ready to plant.. Hahaha

With the baby due in March aka time to start sowing indoors I have decided not to start my own seedlings this year. I figured why add to my plate and have th extra responsibility if I don't need too. It makes me sad, but rather be sad now then overwhelmed later. Maybe.

Last year I was really disappointed with my seeds so I might try another company. The seedlings I started indoors turned out pretty good. However, just about everything I planted outside had horrible germination. The weather didn't help,  but I was still disappointed. For the second year in a row my tomatoes got blight. In 2014 I bought plants and this past year I grew from seed and still got blight. I'm going to try planting in the back garden this year and see if that makes a difference.

I am still going to do my plot system this year as it really seemed to work out the past few years. However I am thinking I might throw in a few more flower plots to make things pretty.

Lots of thinking ahead...lol

Take care

Wip 20/01/16

This week was a bit better on the organization front, however it's hard having someone do things for you instead of doing them yourself. Don't get me wrong I love the help, but having everything put away or organized to someone else's taste means more work in the end. Basically it means taking everything back out and redoing it...arg

The big focus was getting the nursery cleaned up which was pretty easy. Only one box made it down to the craft room and that was a mistake so it was easy to remove. As you can see it's a bit better in the craft room. Still a hot mess but slightly better. Hopefully mr. P can help move out the hutch this week. I was able to organize a few wips into craft boxes.

Current progress
Still slow. However I did get the fabric and batting cut out for my coffee machine mat. It was hard to get me big pregnant belly behind that hutch to my cutting mat...lol  my chair is still stuck back there so I was unable to do any sewing. Hopefully tonight though! Should be easy once I get going.

Use it or lose it

One of my goals for 2016 is to get back on the blogging bandwagon. I do miss it and the whole blogging community. I just have to clear away to the computer and type...lol (obviously my 2016 goal should be to clean up more....lol )

So to help me out I am starting up my use it or lose it posts again. What was that all about again you ask. Well basically it's a way to get me to use up all the food I canned or froze from the garden before you guessed it I lose it. Well technically before it goes bad I shouldn't physically lose anything..lol
I'm going to try an apply this to item in my fridge and pantry too.

This week I used up

Flour to make fresh bread

We ate one loaf right away with our cheese fondue and the other one went to the freezer to await the same fate another day. Yummy!!!
I used my mil recipe but did a 60/40 ratio to white and multi grain flour. It turned out quite well. For as often as I use this recipe it always surprises me. Sometimes the dough rises in the oven, sometimes not. This time it got pretty huge and I could have made four loaves. Oh well still yummy!

You are likely thinking, oh boy, flour how hard is that to use up. Not too hard I guess, however, after our wormy flour incident a few years back I try my best not to let it sit too long.

I didn't do too well at using anything from my garden preserves. Something's better than nothing.
1 bag frozen green beans
1 jar pasta sauce

Thanks for tuning in

Wip 13/01/16

Happy 2016. I know I am a bit late to the party in wishing everyone a happy new year, but at least it isn't December 2016....lol you'll have to bear with the Christmas header for a bit more. I can't seem to change it on my iPad...oops

Christmas and New Years were happy occasions in our household this year. After mr. P spending Christmas in the ER last year and everyone having the flu for New Years we were overdue for a happy holiday season. I'll be honest it still isn't the same with out my dad around, this is our third Christmas without him. So even in the happiness our hearts were still heavy.

I have been bit by the sewing bug lately and have been itching to get back into the groove with my machine. Unfortunately my craft room still looks like this....

with the reorganization from our Reno still going on (aka finding space for the stuff we can't fit up stairs anymore downstairs) and trying to get the new nursery ready ( so far we've done nothing...lol however walls and flooring were done a few years ago ) this space might look like this for longer than I want.  It doesn't help that this pregnancy I'm so tired that when lil pickle naps I nap too....lol to make myself feel better about not being productive I tell myself that I better sleep while I can since in 9 weeks I won't be sleeping at all...lol

I do have hopes to get started on the new babies quilt soon. I bought these three flannel pieces from connecting threads and hope to make soon.  I'm not sure how well the flannel will hold up though. Will I regret using them?

I also bought this coffee themed fabric to make a mat to go under our espresso machine.

Hopefully I have more to report next week!
